Oscar Niemeyer
The Rio Rocking Chair, with its unexpected curves, was born from the architect’s dissatisfaction: Niemeyer believed the furniture of the 1970s did not match the architectonic production that was being created at the time.
"We wanted to find a new furniture design that would allow, with the use of pressed wood, to imagine things different from traditional furniture. And as this idea was close to architectural technique, we tried to reduce supports, integrating them in the curved shapes adopted. And we designed armchairs , tables, marquees, rocking chairs, etc. One day, work permitting, we will return in a more organized way to this task that attracts and amuses us."
